Play Ball!! SJALL 2021 Return to the Field

Greetings San Jose American Community,

We reached out last week with the good news that with the County restrictions being relaxed, we can now plan to play ball in 2021. Just like the Big Leaguers, SJALL will have a Spring Training this year!!

As we mentioned, safety for players, coaches, and fans will be at the forefront, so things will look a little different. For the first part of the season this year, we will be conducting camp style practices that comply with the purple tier regarding athletics. More information can be found here: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/outdoor-indoor-recreational-sports.aspx?mc_cid=a6723a4f71&mc_eid=086d38f9df

  • Since actual games are still not in the County guidelines, SJALL will proceed with a Camp/Practice setting. No more than 12 players and no more than 4 adult coaches per session. This is part of the plan that the Board submitted to Little League International in advance of the season, and can be amended as we proceed.
  • Targeted camp/practice start date is Monday 2/15. Since we are all learning to take life during the pandemic one day at a time, this season will be in keeping with that. We will start the season with this camp/practice scenario, and can adjust to continued camp/practice or competitive game scenario as appropriate. All sessions will feature Socially Distanced drills and exercises, with all participants wearing masks, with all precautions taken for sanitization and safety.
  • The Board had planned to start with a one month session for the camp/practice setting, the re-evaluate the format, schedule, and fees based on the best information that can be had at the conclusion of the one month program.
  • Fees for this initial setting are as follows: T-Ball, A-Ball, and AA will be $40 for the first session, and AAA, Majors, and Juniors will be $50. Since we are starting mid month, these fees will be for a 6 week session, tentatively planned to run February 15 through March 31. Collection of these fees will not be collected through the registration website, and will be collected via check, cash, or card. The goal is to make it as seamless as possible for families electing to play.
  • Divisions, Camp/Practice Teams will be allocated according to the registration waitlist file as of 5:00 pm on Wednesday February 10. Players registered after this date will be placed on a stand-by list. Please ensure that players have been registered at www.sjall.org in the Sports Connect Application (click the “Register” button in the upper right hand corner of the site) by selecting to add them to the waitlist for the Spring 2021 session.
  • At this time, the plan is to have 1 to 2 camp/practices per week at Cory, dependent on division and field access. This may be adjusted as the session progresses according to attendance and number of players.
  • COACHING!! We anticipate a good response for these sessions. We will need help to conduct these sessions, and cannot do so without coaches. This is a great way to get involved, and the league will conduct a “Coach the Coaches” event as soon as the teams/groups are finalized on February 11th. Even if you have not coached before, don’t worry! We have a great staff of seasoned leaders to help with practice plans and other items.

The Board understands that there are still many unknowns at this time, and we welcome your feedback as we proceed. Please e-mail [email protected] with questions, concerns, or suggestions. We look forward to a safe, orderly return to the field, so that our ballplayers can have some time to get out there to be kids, have fun, and play some great SJALL baseball.

PLAY BALL!!
